Why isn’t the mud flood in our ‘history’ books?

A few centuries ago – possibly in the early 1800s – a devastating worldwide mud flood buried homes, public buildings and infrastructure under up to 30 feet (9m) of soil, but our ‘history’ books are completely silent on this catastrophic event. Why?
